The Ford Ecostar van. A sodium-sulfur battery pack coupled with an AC drive system provides a range of 100 miles. Payload is rated at 1,000 pounds and top speed is 70 mph.

American Flywheel Systems (Seattle, Washington) displayed their AFS20 prototype vehicle which will be powered by unique flywheel batteries (mockup shown above right). The planned battery system should provide 40.8 Kwh of energy storage, allowing a projected highway range of 350 miles. Predicted battery life is 200,000 miles. Projected recharge time is 20 minutes (fast rate) or 6 hours (slow rate). Eventual vehicle selling price is estimated at $30,000.
